Artist's Statement
|
In my work, I am concerned primarily with light and atmosphere, as
well as mood. My tonalist paintings have been called evocative,
lyrical and poetic. I endeavor to create a sense of quiet dignity
in the landscapes I portray, evoking an inner standstill which
allows a moment of reflection for the viewer. I use traditional
techniques such as use of transparent color, glazes and scumbling
and a limited but rich palette to create these atmospheric effects.
I am most influenced by late 19th century tonalist landscape
painters but I incorporate a modern sensibility into my work through
spare design and choice of color. |
